Ostomy Flanges: Tape or No Tape
My Ostomy
There are many different types of ostomy supplies that are available to ostomates, and it may seem overwhelming to decide between so many options on the market. One of the decisions that one may have to make is what ostomy flange to use. With so many out there and so many different types, it may be useful to outline the differences between flanges with a tape border and a flange with a full flange border.
Tape Border:
- Feels “lighter” on the body.
- Ideal for those who prioritize having a lower profile.
- Can take longer to dry when wet.
- Can be more irritating to the skin.
Full Flange Border:
- Commonly referred to as a “no tape border”.
- Stiffer and feels bulkier on the body.
- Border is made out of hydrocolloid and gentler on the skin.
Decisions on what kind of supplies to use can be a very personal decision for an ostomate. That is why it is very important to consider your priorities and lifestyle when making purchasing decisions. In addition to the many different types of products that may be out there for an ostomate to decide from, there are also many brands that provide them.
MyOstomy has solutions for any ostomate. We provide both flanges with tape borders and full flange borders through the Marlen UltraLite and UltraMax products.
The Marlen UltraLite is a pouch that comes with a tape border flange attached. The Marlen UltraLite has a very large size range and is perfect for any ostomate that prefers a lighter fit.
For those who prefer a full flange border, the Marlen UltraMax may be the perfect fit. The Marlen UltraMax is available in both pre-cut and cut-to-fit options and is also available both attached to the pouch itself as well as separately.
